With 18,000 people inside Los Angeles’s Staples Center and millions more watching the event on TV and computer monitors around the world, emotions ran high during Tuesday’s remarkable tribute to Michael Jackson.

There were songs, there were speeches, there was spontaneity and there were film and video clips of the late King of Pop.

But the tribute, though public, was also personal and, at times, extremely touching.
