MOST ANTICIPATED DELIVERY
Pregnancy, Julia Roberts told Oprah Winfrey, has been "very empowering." In her first TV interview since announcing her mom-to-be status, the Oscar winner, 36, revealed she's been buying pink and blue matching T-shirts and keeping in shape with Pilates as she prepares to give birth to twins – a boy and girl – in January. The Oprah episode airs Nov. 4, a month before Roberts's Closer and Ocean's 12 hit screens.
BEST REASON FOR CALLER ID
"Enough is enough," Bill O'Reilly, 55, told his FOX News viewers Oct. 13. And that day he sued producer Andrea Mackris, 33, for extortion – and she in turn sued him for sexual harassment, saying the TV commentator had phone sex with her three times against her wishes. The married O'Reilly insists Mackris demanded $60 million in "hush money" and called her lawsuit "the single most evil thing I have ever experienced."
EASIEST FREE PUBLICITY
Eminem got under Michael Jackson's skin this week with his "Just Lose It" video. The video – in which the rapper parodies Jackson with prosthetic makeup and says, "Come here, little kiddies, on my lap ... I've done touched on everything but little boys" – angered Jackson, who called it "offensive" and asked that it be taken out of rotation. Eminem stood by the clip, and MTV has continued to air it – but BET yanked the video, deeming it "inappropriate."
MOST PRACTICAL SPLIT
Even the frequent flier miles couldn't save this love. New Yorker Katie Couric and L.A.-based boyfriend Tom Werner called it quits after a four-year bicoastal romance. The Today show host began dating the multimillionaire TV producer (The Cosby Show) in the summer of 2000. But a source told PEOPLE the "distance had become untenable" for the "cerebral" couple.
MOST UNUSUAL ENGAGEMENT
Two months after being released from prison, Mary Kay Letourneau is set to walk down the aisle – with the student she was convicted of raping more than seven years ago. Letourneau, 42, announced her engagement to Vili Fualaau, 21, on Larry King Live Oct. 11. The ex-schoolteacher, who first had sex with Fualaau when he was 13 and has two children by him, said she's been "blessed" and shares "a deep spiritual oneness" with him.
BEST "STAND BY YOUR MAN" MOMENT
Ready to join the Britney Federline Fan Club? Singer Spears, 22 – who told PEOPLE last month she wanted to take new husband Kevin Federline's name – is now sharing her intentions with the world, telling a German magazine this week that she's likely to do it, though "society probably won't allow me." Spears has already made major changes since her Sept. 18 wedding, including buying a $7 million Malibu home and breaking off with her longtime manager.
MOST SHOCKING STORY
Tatum O'Neal, 40, released her tell-all memoir A Paper Life on Oct. 12, revealing sordid details about underage sex, drug use and parental neglect. In the book, O'Neal, who became the youngest Oscar winner at age 10 for Paper Moon, describes her father, actor Ryan O'Neal, as a bully who often punched her, and her mother, actress Joanna Moore, as an addict who would lock her in the garage without food.
Call it Sex and the Suburbs: ABC's sudsy surprise hit Desperate Housewives managed to clinch Sunday night's No. 1 rating for the second week in a row. And stars (from left) Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher are inspiring sexy cul-de-sac styles with their glam dresses, fitted twin-sets and trendy jeans. Even Carrie Bradshaw has to love that.
Christopher Reeve, the Superman star who became an advocate for spinal cord injury victims after a 1995 horse-riding accident left him a quadriplegic, died Oct. 10 of cardiac failure. Reeves, 52, who is survived by wife Dana and children Alexandra, 20, Matthew, 24, and Will, 12, once said, "I'm not living the life I thought I would lead. But it does have meaning, purpose. There is love, there is joy, there is laughter."
