Six excellent educators have been selected as candidates to be honored by PEOPLE

All six are inspiring, dedicated educators who are making a difference in their students’ lives. They are:

Art Almquist, a drama teacher at Tucson High Magnet School

Jeromie Heath, a fifth grade teacher at Pine Tree Elementary School in Kent, Wash.

Kaylie Gomez, a third grade teacher at Wisdom Academy for Young Scientists in Los Angeles

Diedre Young, a science teacher at Ridgway Christian School in Pine Bluff, Ark.

Kevin Crosby, a special education teacher at Independence High School in Bakersfield, Calif.

Genein Letford, a music teacher for K-5 students at New Academy Canoga Park in Los Angeles
