1999: SUSAN LUCCI FINALLY WINS A DAYTIME EMMY
After 29 years of playing Erica Kane on All My Children – not to mention 18 (!) nominations – Susan Lucci finally took home the gold at the 1999 Daytime Emmy Awards. PEOPLE caught up with the soap legend the next day, where she recounted the shock she felt at finally hearing her name called: "I heard a lot of cheering, and my husband swept me up in his arms and I asked him, 'Did they really say my name? Is it okay to go up onstage?'"
