2012: KRISTEN CHEATS ON ROBERT, TWILIGHT FANS DEVASTATED
Young Hollywood's golden couple lost their shine after photos surfaced of Kristen Stewart kissing her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. The actress, who had been dating Twilight costar Robert Pattinson for three years, issued an impassioned apology, saying in a statement, "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry." The couple ultimately called it quits in 2013.

2010: CHELSEA CLINTON WALKS DOWN THE AISLE
Although her famous parents were also present, all eyes were on Chelsea Clinton when she tied the knot with longtime love Mark Mezvinsky on July 31. Following the small, intimate ceremony, which was held in upstate New York, the bride and groom treated their guests to a sultry first dance choreographed by Dancing with the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy. "We are profoundly grateful to be surrounded by our family and friends as we begin our new life together," the couple wrote in their wedding program.

2006: MEL GIBSON'S DRAMATIC DOWNFALL
On July 27, 2006, the Oscar winner was pulled over for drunk driving, with an open bottle of tequila within his reach. When police conducted a field sobriety test, Gibson launched into an anti-Semitic tirade and verbally attacked a female officer. Though he checked into rehab and issued two apologies, admitting, "I acted like a person completely out of control ... and said things I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed," his career never fully recovered.

2002: BEN AFFLECK AND JENNIFER LOPEZ'S ROMANCE HEATS UP
Before there was Ben and Jen, there was Bennifer. Not long after they got together, Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were officially the biggest, hottest couple in Hollywood (they even kicked off the celebrity couple-name trend!). "We both really kind of surprised each other," Lopez told [CELEBRITY_LINK" "" "" "0" ]. "I just thought, you know, he was one of these Hollywood guys, [but] he was just, like, a really down-to-earth, charming, sweet, affectionate person."

2000: BRAD AND JENNIFER SAY 'I DO'
She just tied the knot with Justin Theroux, but 15 years ago, Jennifer Aniston walked down the aisle for the first time to marry Brad Pitt. The intimate ceremony cemented the couple as Hollywood royalty and was all about celebrating with their loved ones: "It was an emotional service," a guest told PEOPLE. "It was not like a business thing. It was friends and family and celebration."

1994: MICHAEL AND LISA MARIE GET HITCHED
Two of rock-and-roll's biggest dynasties merged when Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley announced that they had quietly married in the Dominican Republic on May 26. While Jackson's close friends said they were "happily surprised" by the news, the press speculated that it was a PR stunt engineered to help boost his career in the wake of child molestation accusations. Regardless, the couple divorced amicably less than two years later and remained close for years afterward.

1991: JEFFREY DAHMER GETS CAUGHT
After terrorizing the Milwaukee area for over a decade, serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was finally arrested in 1991 and confessed to the murders of 16 people. The police found the remains of his victims – bones, decomposing corpses and organs that he implied he was planning to eat – in his small apartment. Though he was beaten to death in prison in 1994, Dahmer and his crimes have fascinated psychologists and true crime experts for decades since.

1990: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK HAD A BUNCH OF HITS
Step aside, One Direction! Back in the '80s and '90s, there was only one boy band who reigned supreme, selling out arenas, topping the charts and leaving a trail of screaming, crying teenage girls in their wake: New Kids on the Block. And Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood, all of whom grew up in working-class Boston, were living the dream: "I expected exactly what came," Jordan told PEOPLE. "Even when that first album died, I went around and told people, 'Yeah, man, we're gonna be famous.'"

1985: ROCK HUDSON'S DOUBLE LIFE
The 1950s heartthrob rocked fans in July 1985 when he revealed that he was gay and suffering from AIDS. While telling the public about his private life and personal battle wasn't easy for the iconic actor, Hudson knew that being honest was more important than his reputation: "It has been his desire that if he can do anything at all to help the rest of humanity by acknowledging that he has this disease, he will be happy to do that," his spokesperson, Dale Olson, told PEOPLE.

1977: FARRAH FAWCETT BIDS CHARLIE FAREWELL
Charlie's Angels helped make Farrah Fawcett the most iconic sex symbols of the '70s, but, following a salary dispute, she announced in the summer that she was leaving the hit series after one season. Her departure apparently ruffled a feathers among her fellow Angels. "I just hope she's done the right thing for herself," costar Kate Jackson told PEOPLE, adding, "I think it's about time everyone stopped asking us about last year – dragging up stuff – and started thinking about this season. Everybody knows when you look back you turn to salt." Fawcett eventually returned as a guest star in seasons 3 and 4.
