Pearl Jam Concert Tragedy
Eight people were killed in a stampede by fans rushing the stage Friday night at an outdoor Pearl Jam concert 30 miles outside of Copenhagen, Denmark, and three others were injured. Danish radio reported that members of the music group begged the crowd to move back, but their appeals went unheeded. Several people were crushed or trampled to death, according to police. All the victims were men. Nearly 10,000 tickets were sold for the four-day event, held at the Roskilde festival. When the tragedy occurred, Pearl Jam stopped its performance, and the next show, by the British band the Cure, was canceled out of “respect for the dead,” said a festival spokesman.
