Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly worked together in her Oscar-winning 2001 movie, A Beautiful Mind, but do the married couple – who wed in 2003 – have any plans to do something together again?

“Make babies,” wisecracks Bettany, 36, who is already father to the couple’s 3-year-old son, Stellan, and stepdad to Connelly’s 10-year-old son, Kai (from her relationship with photographer David Dugan).

“Or practice making babies,” he amends.

“Oh, you mean work-wise?” he told PEOPLE at Monday’s Elle Women in Hollywood event at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel. “I’d love to work with Jennifer. She’s quite good at acting, so it would be foolish for me to pass up the opportunity if it came.”

Connelly, also 36, was one of the night’s honorees, along with Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Kate Bosworth, Amy Adams, Lauren Bacall and director Julie Taymor.

“I’m kind of like the eye candy,” Bettany said at the largely female event. “You know, as we walk down the red carpet, I know everybody’s kind of looking at us thinking, ‘How did she snag him?’ So it boosts my confidence.”

But what could be a crushing blow: his wife’s former crush on a true daredevil. “I was really into Evel Knievel for awhile there,” Connelly – whose next movie is He’s Just Not That into You with Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck – tells PEOPLE. “I was really obsessed.”

While her hubby won’t be learning any motorcycle tricks, London-born Bettany, ever accommodating, points out, “It’s more about the costume, I think. I’m wearing it underneath my suit!”
