Patrick Kennedy is a bachelor no longer.

The former Rhode Island Congressman married Amy Petitgout in Hyannis Port, Mass., on Friday evening, PEOPLE confirms.

“This is a day that’s a beautiful day, not only in weather but just for my family,” Kennedy, 44, told reporters. “And I’m the luckiest guy. She’s the best I could have ever imagined, and I’m lucky to be able to share this day with her.”

The son of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy wed the schoolteacher in an intimate ceremony at the Kennedy Compound.

“Justice Breyer will perform the wedding up in Hyannis Port with just family,” Patrick told PEOPLE in May. “It’s going to be just … at my dad’s house.”

While Patrick would have loved to have his father, who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2009, as best man, his brother Edward Kennedy, Jr. was happy to step in.

“My brother has so much of my dad about him in the best ways,” Patrick said. “We’ll have some nice remembrances of him and that will be good.”

As for important family traditions, Kennedy promised there would be “good music” at the ceremony. “I want people to all have a good time in terms of being able to dance. I have to get a good playlist,” he told PEOPLE.

Patrick got engaged to Petitgout in March. This will be his first marriage.

Petitgout has a 3-year-old daughter, Harper, from a previous marriage.
