Less than a week after Grey’s Anatomy fans mourned the shocking death of Dr. Derek Shepherd, comes news that Patrick Dempsey and his estranged wife are preparing to list their sumptuous Frank Gehry-designed Malibu estate for $14.5 million, according to multiple outlets. The modern home, dubbed the Tin House for its corrugated metal construction, sits on 3.2 acres and features 5,547 square feet of living space, plus amenities including a rock-climbing wall, pool with detached spa and open-air kitchen, and animal coops and a four-stall barn for the family’s assorted farm animals, according to the Los Angeles Times. Dempsey and wife Jillian purchased the home for $7 million in 2009, according to The Wall Street Journal. Jillian filed for divorce in January after 15 years of marriage and three children together. Dempsey, 49, proudly showed off the eye-popping home – built for renowned abstract artist Ron Davis more than 40 years ago – in Architectural Digest for its March 2014 issue. “What’s great about it is you know where everyone is in the house,” he says of the open design plan. “There’s no separation. You don’t lose your kids … I like the intimacy, even with the great volume you have here.” Constructed as an elaborate artist’s loft, the home was modified, Dempsey said, to suit their young family. “This is a family home and we want it to be inviting and comfortable and casual and relaxed so you’re not uptight about things,” he said as viewers see images of his children jumping in the pool and picking flowers from the garden. Even so, the actor made it clear he knew the one-of-a-kind estate wouldn’t be his forever. “It’s fun here,” he said. “You’re a caretaker of a house and you have to be very careful to nurture it and sustain it and hand it off to someone else eventually.” RELATED: Behind the Scenes of Patrick Dempsey’s Divorce
