Final Facebook Post of Passenger on Downed Malaysian Plane Goes Viral
Dutch citizen Cor Pan made a reference to the Malaysian Airlines MH370 shortly before stepping foot on MH17, which crashed Thursday over Ukraine
Hours before Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 crashed Thursday over Ukraine, a man believed to be a passenger on the plane made a reference to the missing Malaysian Airlines MH370, which vanished mysteriously in March.
On his Facebook page, Dutch citizen Cor Pan shared a photo of the plane he was about to board, with a caption that translates to “If it disappears, this is what it looks like.”
Observers on Twitter reported that Pan had indeed been a passenger on MH17.
MH17 took off from Amsterdam’s Schiprol Airport Thursday morning on the way to Kuala Lumpur. It crashed in Ukraine in the middle of its journey, carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew. The plane is thought to have been shot out of the sky, though neither the Ukrainian government nor pro-Russian separatist groups operating in the region have claimed responsibility. It seems likely the plane was shot down by mistake.
Pan was reportedly traveling to Malaysia on vacation with his partner, Neeltje Tol. The earliest comments on his photo are full of friends wishing him a happy trip.
Mourners have since set up a memorial page for Pan.
