BETROTHED: Actress Tori Spelling and actor Charlie Shanian, 34, have announced their plans to wed, a publicist for the former “Beverly Hills 90210” star tells the Associated Press. The two will be married next summer. Spelling, 30, who rose to fame on “90210” and is the daughter of producer Aaron Spelling, is next set to star on the Hallmark Channel’s “A Carol Christmas.”

ACCOMPLISHED: As reported on Nov. 21, actor Christopher Reeve made good on his plans to appear in front of a New York audience without the aid of his ventilator at an annual benefit for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation on Monday night. It was the first such appearance for Reeve, who was paralyzed from the neck down following an accident in 1995. He was able to do so because of an experimental surgical procedure called diaphragm pacing. He is now able to breathe independent of his ventilator for 15 to 18 hours a day.

BORN: “Nip/Tuck”‘s Dylan Walsh and actress/producer Joanna Going welcomed their first child together, Stella Haven Walsh, at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Nov. 22. … Country star Travis Tritt and his wife, Theresa, also became parents for the third time, the singer’s publicist tells AP. The couple welcomed a son in Marietta, Ga., on Nov. 20.

IMPROVED: Meat Loaf, 56, is recovering in a London hospital following an emergency heart operation, Reuters reports. The singer-actor, whose “Bat Out of Hell” is one of the best-selling albums ever, collapsed onstage at London’s Wembley Arena on Nov. 17. He suffers from Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat.
