OFFERED: Four days before he turns 21 on June 21, England’s Prince William will be available on commemorative postage stamps in the country he may one day rule, the Royal Mail has announced. Some 20 million stamps will be printed and will feature four different portraits of the strapping young prince.
REMEMBERED: A monument to TLC singer Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes will be unveiled on May 27 in the Honduran town of La Ceiba, where she was killed in a April 25, 2002 car accident, reports USA Today. The marker will rest on 84 acres of land purchased by Lopes, 30, shortly before her death.
HOSPITALIZED: Singer June Carter Cash, 73, wife of Johnny Cash, 71, is in a Nashville hospital in critical condition with complications from heart surgery, reports the Associated Press. Her publicist says that her husband is asking fans to pray for her. … Also, “60 Minutes” newsman Ed Bradley, 61, is recuperating from successful coronary bypass surgery performed in a New York hospital April 29, reports the New York Post. Bradley says he looks forward to returning to work.
CELEBRATED: Bob Geldof, Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, Ian McKellen, shoe designer Jimmy Choo, Boy George and Joan Collins were among the guests at London’s Dorchester Hotel Friday night as Liza Minnelli, 58, tossed a 50th birthday party for her husband, promoter David Gest, who wore his trademark sunglasses to the bash. “I’m giving this party for David because he is such a wonderful husband and I love him so much,” Minnelli, 58, who flew her 12-member band to Britain for the celebration, told Reuters.
WED: Broadway’s most famous matchmaker, “Hello, Dolly!” legend Carol Channing, 82, got married to childhood sweetheart Harry Kullijian, 83, Saturday in Atherton, Calif., reports the San Francisco Chronicle. It was the second marriage for Kullijian, who was widowed last year, and the fourth for Channing. “I thought she was dead,” was the reaction of the groom, a land developer, when he heard through friends that the retired star might like to hear from him. “She still had the same spark. I just knew it was the right thing to do.”
