ANNOUNCED: Controversial Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, 36, is saying she will retire from the music industry this July, according to a message she posted on her Web site. “I am a very shy person, believe it or not. So I ask with love, that I be left in peace and privacy by people who love my records too,” she says. It’s thought that her decision may also be linked to a fatigue syndrome that recently forced O’Connor to cancel several appearances with Massive Attack.

SET: Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, 58, and his fiancee since November, Judith Nathan, will be married May 24 at New York’s mayoral residence, Gracie Mansion, in a ceremony to be officiated by current Mayor Michael Bloomberg, say reports. “They are absolutely ecstatic,” said Sunny Mindel, Giuliani’s spokesman. “It’s a very happy time for both of them.”

SPLIT: “Harry Potter” star Robbie Coltrane, 53, and his wife, sculptor Rhona Gemmell, 34, have amicably separated, PEOPLE reports in its new issue. The couple have two children. Coltrane plays Hagrid in the boy-wizard series.

PREGNANT: Olympic skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi, 31, and her husband of almost three years, Bret Hedican, 32, a defensive guard for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, are expecting their first child in October. … Actress Chyler Leigh, 21, who plays attorney Claire Wyatt on “The Practice,” and her husband, actor Nathan West (“Bring It On”), 24, are also awaiting the birth of their first child in December. The couple wed last July.

BORN: “Easy Rider” and “Blue Velvet” star Dennis Hopper, 66, and his wife of seven years, actress Victoria Duffy Hopper, 35, welcomed their first child, daughter Galen Grier, March 26 in L.A., says PEOPLE. Hopper has three adult children from three previous marriages.

BUSTED: Nine-time Olympic gold-medal winner Carl Lewis, 41, was arrested in L.A. County on April 21 and charged with driving under the influence, after he crashed his 2004 Maserati into a highway wall. The former track star, who was not injured, is due in court in July.
