BUSTED: Lee Kevin Madden, 27, who identified himself as a news and photo agency reporter, was arrested after allegedly climbing aboard Michael Jackson‘s private jet Nov. 20 while the star surrendered to authorities on a child-molestation warrant, Santa Barbara, Calif., police tell the Associated Press. The revelation followed news that Jackson and his attorney were secretly videotaped aboard the plane, triggering an FBI investigation and a lawsuit by Jackson against the charter jet company. Madden was booked for investigation of misdemeanor trespassing and released.
RESIGNED: Roy E. Disney, 73, nephew of Walt Disney, announced Sunday he is leaving the board of the company that bears his family name. He also sent a blistering three-page letter to Disney CEO Michael Eisner, saying: “Michael, it is my sincere belief that it is you who should be leaving and not me.” Company earnings are down, a board meeting is scheduled for Monday — and the eyes of the financial world are focused on a possible showdown at the Disney corral.
BORN: “Six Feet Under” actress Rachel Griffiths, 35, has given birth to her first child, a boy, with her husband of nearly a year, Andrew Taylor. The baby, named Banjo, was born in Melbourne, Australia. Griffiths’s publicist, Maria Farmer, says the parents and new arrival are all well, adding, “He’s very blond and has big hands.”
DIED: Gertrude Ederle, 98, the first woman to swim the English Channel, died Sunday at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, N.J., about 25 miles northwest of New York City, said Martin Ward, whose wife is one of Ederle’s 10 surviving nieces and nephews, according to AP. Ederle was 20 when she made her historic 21-mile swim on Aug. 6, 1926, in 14 hours and 30 minutes — beating the old record by more than two hours.
BUSTED: “Chasing Amy” and “Big Daddy” star Joey Lauren Adams, 38, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, police in San Diego tell the San Diego Union Tribune. She was reportedly later released on her own recognizance. Police said she was arrested early Friday after an officer saw her pull into a gas station and stop after hitting the curb a few times. Adams’s blood-alcohol level was not immediately available.
CAST: Former “Suddenly Susan” star Brooke Shields, 38, has signed to guest star on three episodes of FOX’s “That ’70s Show,” to play the long-lost mother to Mila Kunis‘s character, Jackie, says the Hollywood Reporter. Her appearances will likely surface during the February sweeps.
