BORN: Ozzy Osbourne, who turned 54 Tuesday, is a grandfather, his publicist has confirmed. Isabelle Starshine Osbourne Hobbs, 31 (Ozzy’s daughter by his first wife, Thelma), gave birth to a baby daughter named Jessica Hobbs three months ago, Britain’s Sunday Mirror reported over the weekend. The father is Ben Hobbs, a surveyor. The family lives in Southwest London, and Isabelle is reportedly not close to her father or his brood with second wife Sharon. As quoted by the Mirror, Isabelle said of her pop: “He’s quite good at getting as much publicity for himself as he can, he doesn’t need me to help him.”
WON: “Jurassic Park” author Michael Crichton, 60, claimed victory in a case against an alleged cyber-squatter, the Canadian-based internet group Alberta Hot Rods, Reuters reports. The ruling, announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), ordered that the Internet domain name be transferred to Crichton after ruling that he had common law trademark rights. Alberta Hot Rods previously lost a cyber-squatting case brought by Kevin Spacey.
APPROVED: Beverly Hills police officer Marcelo Rodriguez, who arrested British pop star George Michael, 39, for lewd conduct in a park men’s room in 1998, got the green light Tuesday to proceed with a $10 million slander suit, Reuters reports. Rodriguez’s first attempt to sue Michael (claiming the singer mocked him in his “Outside” video) was thrown out two years on the grounds that public figures such as cops are not entitled to sue. But an appeals panel ruled that the suit could now proceed because Michael had subsequently made statements that accused Rodriguez of “specific and objectively verifiable acts.”
RETREATED: The British rock band Oasis has “reluctantly” postponed concerts that were scheduled this week in Dusseldorf and Bremen because singer Liam Gallagher, 30, requires surgery on his front teeth, which were broken in a weekend brawl, the group said Tuesday on its Web site. Oasis had canceled concerts in Munich on Sunday and Hamburg on Monday. “The damage to Liam’s teeth is worse than it first appeared and he will have to return to the United Kingdom for surgery before he will be able to perform again,” the statement said.
