Then and Now: See How the Nominees Have Changed Since Their First Oscars
Thirty-nine years passed between Rocky's, ahem, Stallone's first trek down the Oscars carpet as a nominee and his triumphant return as a Best Supporting Actor contender in 2016. "I've never felt better to tell you the truth. Really, all the aches and pains go away, you just feel reborn. It's a modern day miracle. 'Cause when I came here before, it was like 40 years ago – you don't appreciate it, you know what I mean. But now you understand how hard it is to stick around and how many experiences you've had, so now I'm just taking a mental movie of all this," he told PEOPLE on the red carpet.
A then 20-year-old Lawrence burst onto the Oscars scene in a red hot Calvin Klein dress in 2011. Up for the Best Actress statute for Joy this year, the Academy Awards veteran hit the carpet in a gorgeous black lace Dior Haute Couture gown.
The Best Supporting Actress nominee made her Academy Awards debut in 1996. The newcomer had nabbed her first nomination for a supporting role in Sense and Sensibility. "I'm all over the place. I'm incredibly nervous. Thank God my mom and dad are gonna be there because otherwise I'm sure I would fall apart at the seams," she said ahead of her first ceremony. Her hot pink '90s gown was the polar opposite of her sleek 2016 black Ralph Lauren number.
The Best Actor favorite started his Oscars journey in 1994 when he earned his first nomination for What's Eating Gilbert Grape?. "I'm excited, I really am," the baby faced actor told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show ahead of his debut at the ceremony. "I'm ready, I want to go – It's going to be cool."
In 2008, Ronan was one of the youngest Best Supporting Actress nominees in Oscars history as the 13-year-old star of Atonement. Once again, the Brooklyn actress represented her native Ireland by wearing green when she returned as a nom in the Best Actress category.
