Adam Levine slowed things down and stole hearts in the audience as he sang one of the most talked about songs of the awards season.

The Voice judge performed the Best Original Song nominee “Lost Stars,” with the support of his rock group Maroon 5, at the Oscars on Sunday night.

“Lost Stars” is from the soundtrack of Begin Again, a musical rom-com that stars Levine, alongside Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. “The film I tried to act in,” Levine joked on the red carpet.

“QuoteTK,” Levine said to the audience before he played.

Knightley bobbed along and mouthed the words in the audience as she watched her costar croon the lyrics (she knows them well – she also performed the song in the film).

This isn’t the first time Levine has performed the tune live in recent months. In December, he shared the stage with Team Adam finalist Matt McAndrew during the finale of The Voice‘s seventh season for a special duet version.

Written by Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley, Nick Southwood and Grammy winner Gregg Alexander, the acoustic ballad snagged more than an Oscar nod this year. It also made the iTunes top 10 most downloaded songs list and Billboard‘s Hot 100, while also receiving a Critics’ Choice nod (it was beat out by Selma‘s "Glory").

The Best Original Song category also includes “Glory,” “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights and Glen Campbell’s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glen Campbell I’ll Be Me.

The 2015 Oscars, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles, are airing live on ABC.
