A new set of more than 4,000 Oscar ballots was mailed out of the Beverly Hills Post Office last night, to replace eight bags of lost ballots that had been dropped off at the facility on March 1. These represent 80% of the voting block. The Tuesday, March 21, 5 p.m. deadline (just five days before the Oscars) remains unchanged. Meanwhile, the Academy has rapped the knuckles of the Wall Street Journal, which is reported to have conducted a political-style poll of the Academy’s 5,600 members to see how they plan to cast their Oscar ballots. The movie people don’t want anyone spoiling the surprises of the March 26 event by predicting winners in advance. The Journal claims to know nothing about such a poll.
