Shortly after the Oscar ceremony concluded, a TV news helicopter covering the event for Los Angeles station KTTV went down in flames. The pilot, a 28-year-old woman, is in critical condition. An early report said that she has a broken wrist and leg. She might also have suffered a fractured pelvis and concussion, he said. A cameraman also onboard, a 40-year-old man, sustained a possible broken leg and cuts to his face. The accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. PT about 15 miles northwest of the Shrine Auditorium. The pilot reportedly radioed in to say the chopper was experiencing hydraulic problems. The names of the victims have yet to be released.
