It was a strong but not record showing in the Nielsen ratings for the Osbournes, who grace the current cover of PEOPLE magazine and saw their MTV show, “The Osbournes,” return for its second season last Tuesday.
The season premiere, which featured Ozzy having dinner with the president and Kelly prepping for her pop performance debut, pulled in 6.64 million viewers. At its peak during the first season, Variety reports, the show reached nearly 8 million viewers.
Even so, it appears Osbourne-mania hasn’t subsided, given that the family’s competition on other networks was fairly fierce, including original episodes of “NYPD Blue” on ABC, “Judging Amy” on CBS and a Katie Couric interview special on NBC.
In person, Osbourne daughter Kelly, 18, attracted a large crowd in New York last Wednesday, where she signed copies of her debut CD, “Shut Up,” at a Virgin Megastore.
She also told The New York Times that she was going to spend Thanksgiving alone. “The family is going to England — but not me,” she said.
But expect the family to be together again in Beverly Hills for New Year’s Eve. Mother Sharon and father Ozzy plan to renew their wedding vows that night, in honor of their 20th anniversary.
“We’ll write our own vows and have our marriage blessed again,” Sharon, 50, tells PEOPLE. “It will be one New Year’s we’ll never forget.”
