Hollywood sweethearts Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth have split up after more than two years together, their publicist confirms to PEOPLE.
“They did decide to take some time apart due to their upcoming work schedule, and they remain very close,” says their rep, Robin Baum. “It was a mutual decision.”
Baum declined to elaborate on when the split occurred, or the reasons, but the two were spotted together as recently as Jan. 21 at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, where Bloom was staying during the Golden Globes.
Bloom, 28, who starred in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and last year’s Troy, and Bosworth, 22, best known for 2002’s Blue Crush, began dating in the spring of 2002.
While their careers were heating up, the couple tried to keep their romance low profile. “I keep everything that’s private private,” Bosworth told PEOPLE last June. Bloom, meanwhile, said his personal life “isn’t really stuff I want to go into” – though he did declare to a British reporter last year: “I’m in love with love. It’s heavenly when you’re falling for someone and can’t stop thinking about her.”
Career-wise, both Bosworth and Bloom have busy schedules ahead. Bosworth, who most recently starred as Sandra Dee in Kevin Spacey’s Bobby Darin biopic Beyond the Sea, is in talks to play Lois Lane in director Bryan Singer’s Superman, and Bloom, who was named one of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men of 2004, appears in Ridley Scott’s upcoming epic Kingdom of Heaven, due out in May.
