Orlando Bloom has played a swashbuckling pirate on-screen, but in reality, the star is more heroic than mischievious on the high seas.

The British actor helped rescue a stranded jet skier in Malibu, California, on Sunday after spotting the broken-down wave runner while on the beach with son Flynn Christopher, 4.

Bloom, 38, was celebrating Father’s Day with Flynn, his child with ex Miranda Kerr, when he came to the rescue.

The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, wearing red swim trunks and a white shirt, aided other bystanders in towing the broken-down wave runner out of the water and onto the beach.

Bloom will reprise his role as Will Turner in the latest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, which hits theaters in 2017. The new film, titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, is already filming with Johnny Depp in Queensland, Australia.

Meanwhile, the actor has been keeping in shape in Malibu. Bloom stepped out at a nearby gym earlier this year, showing off his toned physique – sans shirt – as he lifted weights with a friend.
