Celebrity OPRAH, GIFFORD GOING By People Staff Published on April 28, 1999 12:00 AM Share Tweet Pin Email A disgusted Oprah Winfrey is calling it a day — in two years. The talk show queen has told the Sunday Times of London that she is sickened by the sort of TV sleaze made popular by Jerry Springer — “We will see sexual intercourse on television, and I would not be surprised if one person actually kills another,” she said — and that “I am all talked out.” She said she will see her show through her current two-year contract, but that’s it. “I am in disbelief about things that are happening on television talk shows,” she said. “How low can it get? Can public taste keep on sinking? Yes, it can. I have to get out.” In other TV news, Gifford is leaving the show. No, not Kathie Lee. Her husband Frank, 58. The “Monday Night Football” commentator is expected to exit ABC’s primetime pigskin franchise completely next season, ending a 28-year association with the program. Variety says the move is not a total surprise: Gifford’s workload was greatly reduced last year after ABC removed him from the anchor booth and made him co-host of its new “Monday Night Blast” pregame show. Gifford’s current deal with ABC expires in June.
