Louis Tomlinson Opens Up About Fatherhood as One Direction Performs New Single 'Drag Me Down' in Central Park
"Obviously, it's a very exciting time, so thank you," Tomlinson said
On national TV, in front of thousands of screaming fans in New York City’s Central Park, Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan congratulated the 23-year-old Englishman “from one father to another.”
The One Direction singer gave a small smile and said: “Obviously, it’s a very exciting time, so thank you.”
PEOPLE confirmed last month that Tomlinson and Jungwirth are expecting a child together after briefly dating.
The band talked about their new single “Drag Me Down” – which set a new Spotify record with more than 4.5 million streams in one day – and Zayn Malik’s departure before they performed “Steal My Girl,” “Story of My Life” and the new, squeal-inducing single.
Band members said it’s different not having Malik around, but they’re “still going strong.” And go strong they did, dropping “Drag Me Down” completely out of nowhere last Friday.
Frontman Harry Styles – with his hair especially shaggy – said the London-based group wanted to do something different with the new single and surprise fans rather than “do a big run-up.” (Malik recently Tweeted that the new song is “sick.”)
The band divulged that fans can expect a different sound from the “Best Song Ever” singers in their fifth studio album.
“I suppose it’s quite eclectic, really,” Liam Payne said of the album. “It’s all quite different. There’s a couple, nice slow sort of usual One Direction songs on there, but we’ve taken a lot of inspiration from older artists.”
