What does a 50-year-old lamp-maker do to show his love of One Direction? Make a 1D-inspired lamp, of course!

Jerry Riekert got a lot of attention on Twitter following the American Music Awards when he Tweeted about how the boys of One Direction “can actually sing.”

After receiving hundreds of responses from like-minded Directioners, he expressed his surprise, Tweeting, “how did the One Direction fans find me? I’m just a simple man from New York who makes lamps.”

Deciding to capitalize on the opportunity presented to him by his newfound Twitter fame, Riekert even Tweeted some of his best lamps to his new fans.

The next day, Riekert promised to make a One Direction-inspired lamp if one of the members noticed his products.

As it happens, the boys of One Direction did notice Riekert’s lamps. (Three of the boys, anyway.) In an interview with Australia’s Shazam Top 20 radio, they were told about Riekert and his promise to make the lamp.

“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for,” said Louis Tomlinson. “When someone tells you they’ll make you a lamp.”

“That is huge to think about,” Liam Payne added. “That guy said he didn’t like us to start with, and now he wants us to recognize his lamps. That is huge.”

Well, as promised, Riekert made the lamp:

He completed the One Direction-inspired lamp on Dec. 3 – the second anniversary of 1D’s only concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Riekert’s internet fame proves that Directioners have the passion and drive to make literally anybody famous – even a “simple man from New York who makes lamps.”
