Bikes, Business and the Beach: The First Family Takes the Vineyard
RIDE MY BICYCLE
Three-quarters of the Obama clan (where are you, Sasha?!) hits the roads on Martha's Vineyard on two wheels. No motorcade needed for this ride!
When you're the President of the United States, even a well-deserved vacation evolves into a work trip. In 2014, Obama sat down for dinner with National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Attorney General Eric Holder and former Trade Representative Ron Kirk at the Sweet Life Cafe.
In between business and golf, POTUS always makes an effort to make time for his wife, the always-elegantly-dressed Michelle, here in 2011 after the duo had dinner at Nancy's restaurant on the Vineyard.
PICKING UP KNICK-KNACKS
In 2009, the Obama trip to Martha's Vineyard was a full family affair. Along with Sasha and Malia, the President's niece, Suhaila Ng, accompanied the family to the island – and on a trip to Alley's General Store with her cousins.
LIGHT IT UP
Even the First Family knows it's not a trip to the Cape without a few lighthouse visits. Malia takes in the view back in 2009.
GREAT BIG GRIN
This cashier's grin takes the "service with a smile" slogan up a notch. And why shouldn't it? It's not everyday the leader of the free world pops by your storefront.
Mom Michelle may be the nation's best-known proponent of healthy eating, but that didn't stop Barack and his daughters from indulging in a coke on their Vineyard trip back in 2009. Hey, it doesn't count when you're on vacation, right?
ROOM WITH A VIEW
True luxury: In their Martha's Vineyard rental, the Obamas don't even have to leave the air conditioning to get a peek at the ocean.
KICK BACK & RELAX
What the Obama family's Martha's Vineyard getaway house lacks in the priceless American artifacts they have back home at the White House, it makes up for in cozy charm. The First Family can get competitive over a game of chess, or host friends and family at the expansive dinner table (with a lot less formality than a State Dinner, too!).
ANOTHER WHITE HOUSE
Alright, so it's only partially white. But regardless of color, we're sure the Obama family feels right at home in their $12 million summer rental.
