Nicole Kidman may be hauling daughter Sunday Rose to movie sets in Sydney and on shopping trips in London, but the Oscar-winner still finds time – and money – to make her mark in the States.

Kidman will sponsor awards for best male and best female actor at the upcoming Tropfest NY, an event honoring achievement in short filmmaking, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“I went to her a week or two ago, saying we were doing the festival here, and I wanted to give the best actor and actress a great prize and how did she feel about it,” festival founder and director John Polson told PEOPLE on Monday. “She generously decided to help out.”

Kidman’s donation will be presented to both best actors at Lower Manhattan’s World Financial Center Plaza on Sept. 26. Polson says he is “still confirming” whether the star, 41, would be on hand to award the prizes in person.
