On Friday, the former boy band member-turned-sex symbol-turned-R&B star released his latest single and music video, “Close,” a collaboration with labelmate (and “Talking Body” star) Tove Lo. The track – the first off his upcoming album Last Year Was Complicated, due June 10 – “is about how I literally can’t open up and be vulnerable with someone,” Jonas tweeted on Thursday. As the one-time Disney star has become a tabloid fixture in recent years, fans can expect the new record to provide insight into Jonas’ love life (both his split from ex Olivia Culpo and rumored romance with Kate Hudson fueled headlines for months). “When I first started making I thought I knew what it would be about… Then I had a breakup. It then became very clear what this thing would be about… And that I would need to dig really deep,” Jonas tweeted Thursday. “S— is too real sometimes… Reliving some of these real life experiences through this music is hard. But I know it’s important that I do it. I want to be an open book in my art … Every song is so personal and meaningful to me.” Jonas, 23, also shared the album’s tracklist, tweeting out the song titles on Thursday: “Voodoo,” “Champagne Problems,” “Close,” “Chainsaw,” “Touch,” “Bacon,” “Good Girls,” “The Difference,” “Don’t Make Me Choose,” “Under You,” “Unhinged” and “Comfortable.” In addition to Tove Lo, the “Jealous” singer also thanked his Last Year Was Complicated collaborators, Big Sean, Ty Dolla $ign and Allen Iverson and took to Instagram to reveal the album art. And Jonas’ new tunes come right in time: He hits the road with pal Demi Lovato for the Honda Civic Tour: Future Now! at the end of June.
