Multiple sources confirm the split, with a source close to Jonas telling PEOPLE, “It’s been tough” for the pair.
Just last week, the “Chains” singer admitted he’s “no pro” at making a long-distance relationship work. “It’s just about trying to take it one step at a time,” he told PEOPLE. “I think that the long distance thing can be tough, but try to stay in communication, keep it transparent and honest, and it should be okay.”
Asked whether Culpo would be joining him on any of his upcoming tour stops, Jonas, 22, kept his answer vague, adding that “for the most part when I’m on the road, I’m kind of in my thing and doing that.”
In April, the star told PEOPLE having Culpo in his life “makes things a little easier,” and that his experience writing his hit song “Jealous,” – inspired by the former Miss USA – “actually helped me process it and make it easy to deal with.”
He’s also never shied away from gushing about Culpo, 23, on social media. In May, Jonas wished her a happy birthday, posting a cute photo of the pair and calling her “the girl who lights up my world everyday.”
