Nick Gordon visited his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s gravesite last week, PEOPLE confirms.

Gordon was flown “by some generous friends” to visit Brown’s grave at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, on Aug. 17, a family source tells PEOPLE.

Brown, who was 22 when she died, was buried next to her mother, Whitney Houston, on Aug. 3, following an Atlanta-area funeral service two days prior.

The family – including her father, Bobby Brown – banned Gordon from both; Gordon instead paid his respects at the beach, which his mother said was “their favorite place to go.”

Brown died last month in hospice care, nearly six months after being found unconscious and unresponsive in a bathtub.

In June, Brown’s court-appointed conservator filed a complaint accusing Gordon of domestic violence and theft. After Brown died, the complaint was amended to accuse Gordon of her “wrongful death.” (Gordon’s team called the suit “slanderous and meritless” at the time, adding: “Nick has been heartbroken and destroyed over the loss of his love and it’s shameful that such baseless allegations have been presented publicly.”)
