Nicholas Brendon Enters Rehab for Depression, Alcoholism, Substance Abuse Problems
Nicholas Brendon has checked into rehab.
The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star entered a treatment facility in California on Monday “to treat his depression, alcoholism and substance abuse problems,” according to a statement on his Facebook page.
The 44-year-old, who has been arrested three times this year on charges including public intoxication, grand theft and criminal mischief, “has been aware of his problems for some time – and with each new challenge, he gained a greater understanding of what needed to be done to overcome these obstacles and move forward with his life,” the statement said.
“Since his arrest last October, Nicky had tried several treatment methods – from therapy, to outpatient services – only to realize recently that he needed to take an extended break and treat the underlying issues of his illnesses,” the statement continued.
The actor split from his wife Moonda Tee in February after five months of marriage, and he said in an interview in March that his substance abuse issues were caused by his ongoing battle with depression and difficulty dealing with memories of being molested as a child.
Brendon, who is a regular at fan conventions, plans to return to making appearances in late summer after he has completed his treatment program.
