REMEMBERED: Music fans will mark the 10-year anniversary of the suicide of Kurt Cobain, front man for the pioneering grunge band Nirvana, this week. Cobain, who also was married to Courtney Love before his death at age 27, was a catalyst for a new generation of music. Nirvana’s second album, “Nevermind,” has been hailed as one of the most influential records of the 1990s, once knocking Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous” from the top of the charts, the Associated Press reports. The musician is believed to have killed himself at his Seattle home on April 5, 1994, but his body was not found until several days later.

STAMPED: Actor John Wayne will get his due on a new postage stamp that was unveiled Saturday, AP reports. The Duke will appear on the U.S. Postal Service’s annual “Legends of Hollywood” stamps. It’s not the first time the legendary actor has been stamped. Wayne’s likeness was previously issued on a 25-cent stamp honoring classic films from 1939 (Wayne appeared in “Stagecoach” that year) in 1990. The new commemorative stamp was released during a fund-raiser for the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Wayne died of cancer in 1979.

AWARDED: Mickey Rooney, a veteran of more than 200 films, was recognized for a different sort of service Sunday night. At the National D-Day Memorial, Rooney received a special award for his two years of service in World War II. The 83-year-old actor received the award from another veteran, AP reports. “I’m very proud to have just played a small part with what I did,” he said.

SAFE: Actress Dyan Cannon was reported safe after a fire broke out in her West Hollywood condominium, leading to the evacuation of residents in her high-rise building on Sunday morning, AP reports. Cannon, who most recently appeared in “Kangaroo Jack,” was awoken by an alarm in her eighth-floor unit. A Los Angeles County fire spokesman said the blaze, which began in the 67-year-old actress’s condo, was probably due to an electrical malfunction. About 200 people from the building were evacuated. Cannon was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but was reportedly in good condition.
