Celebrity Newest TV Millionaire By Stephen M. Silverman Published on October 9, 1998 12:00 AM Share Tweet Pin Email Regis’s show is $1 million poorer. Thanks to answering a question about a computer bug, Joe Trela, a computer company customer service rep from Gilroy, Calif., is the third — and youngest — $1 million winner on ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” The bachelor, 25, went the distance on a show which aired Thursday night. His final question: “What insect shorted out an early supercomputer and inspired the term ‘computer bug’: (A) moth, (B) roach, (C) fly, (D) Japanese beetle.” Answer: A. Trela, who used up his three lifelines by the time he reached the $32,000 level, plans to landscape his mother’s backyard with his winnings, take time to polish off a sci-fi screenplay he’s writing, and possibly visit a pal in England. (No word yet on whether or not he’ll quit his job.) He also said on the air that he’ll pay his brother’s college tuition to Notre Dame. Trela is no stranger to game shows. The Associated Press reports that he repeatedly tried out to be a contestant on “Jeopardy!” — but never made it on to the show.
