A newborn daughter died on Wednesday one week after her mother tragically died in childbirth.
Dr. Nikki Shoemake-Patterson, 40, a physician, died June 1 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi, according to USA Today.
Her friend, Beth Crisler Cook, took to Facebook and said that she died of a pulmonary embolism while in “natural labor,” the newspaper reports.
Her daughter, Aubrey Caroline Patterson, was then taken to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi and died just seven days later on June 8.
“Aubrey Caroline was surrounded by family as she peacefully passed into her mother s arms in heaven,” part of her mothers obituary read.
Shoemake-Patterson was “devoted to her calling in life, taking care of others.”
