Nashville Cuts Old-Timers

The Nashville Network is canceling some country music-oriented programming, including the talk-variety format that has been its prime-time flagship for 16 years. Executives at the cable network this week confirmed reports that “Prime Time Country with Gary Chapman” will stop production in September. Three entertainment magazine shows that focus on country singers are also being canceled: “Crook & Chase,” “Crook & Chase Tonight” and “This Week in Country Music.” The network is developing a number of series and specials to broaden its audience, said a TNN spokeswoman, and these will be announced in September.

  • Meanwhile, reruns of “The Real McCoys,” a ’60s sitcom with Walter Brennan and Richard Crenna, still appear on TNN every afternoon and are a PEOPLE Daily favorite.
