The parents of Louise Woodward, the British au pair convicted of killing a child in her care in the United States, appeared in a British court Wednesday on theft charges. Gary and Sue Woodward, both 43, are accused of submitting a false invoice for about $14,000 for Sue Woodward’s accommodation near Boston, where her daughter was tried for murder in 1997. The invoice was submitted to the Louise Woodward and Family Trust, which received donations from the public. The Woodwards, who have since separated, appeared in Chester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, each facing two charges of theft. They spoke only to confirm their names, addresses and dates of birth and to state they understood the charges. A further hearing is set for Oct. 13.
