Mathew Sitko was literally on the edge of death.

The 23-year-old driver was hanging off a canyon cliff in Lewiston, Idaho, after an accident Wednesday morning, according to WHAS 11, and the only thing keeping him from falling over the edge was a fence.

After his car hit several shrubs and a tree before going off the road and onto the edge of the cliff, a mystery man was captured on camera pulling Sitko from the window of his 2000 GMC Yukon.

Police say they were never able to get his name.

“Said he had to go, and he left,” Lewiston police officer Eric Olson told the news outlet.

Rescue workers took Mathew Sitko to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with only minor injuries, KHQ reports. Investigators also think a type of mental episode may have been the cause of the collision.
