People have different ways to describe Muhammad Ali’s greatness – his excellence as an athlete, his years-long fight against Parkinson’s disease and his equally long championing of justice.

This morning we look at the man behind all of those plaudits, and at his extraordinary life, which ended on Friday at 74.

Time Inc. has organized a livestream special to remember Ali with special remembrances from Bernard Hopkins, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and more.

As President Barack Obama said in a statement, following news of Ali’s death, “Muhammad Ali was The Greatest. Period. If you just asked him, he’d tell you.”

He “shook up the world,” Obama said. “And the world is better for it.”
