The Academy Awards may have ignored “There’s Something About Mary,” but MTV didn’t. The comedy captured eight nominations Monday for the MTV Movie Awards, including best movie. Adam Sandler was nominated for “best male” for his performance in “The Waterboy.” “Mary”‘s Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz were nominated for best on-screen duo and best kiss, and they’ll compete against each other in the category of best comedic performance. Among the other nominees for best kiss: Jeremy Irons and Dominique Swain in “Lolita” and Matt Dillon, Denise Richards and Neve Campbell in “Wild Things.”

  • Also nominated for best movie were “Shakespeare in Love,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Armageddon” and “The Truman Show.” And don’t expect to see Roberto Benigni hopping on any chairs at the MTV event on June 10. He wasn’t nominated.
