Darryl Strawberry’s wife is pleading for the public’s compassion for her husband, who is serving a drug-related suspension from baseball. “He got treated very well with having cancer,” Charisse Strawberry told New York’s Daily News, referring to the reaction when the New York Yankee outfielder was diagnosed with colon cancer last fall. “Then when you have an addiction problem, or an alcohol problem, you get treated bad, and I don’t think that’s fair. They’re both diseases, and people need to recognize it.” Strawberry was suspended in April after being arrested in Tampa, Fla., on charges of cocaine possession and soliciting a prostitute. It was his second suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy.
