Canadian Mounties always get their man, and the legend will hold true when Constable Sue Downs gets down off her horse in Winnipeg this month to tie the knot with a fellow officer, reports Reuters. Downs will be one of several Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers to don their official red serge uniforms and reenact the Great Ride West of 1874, set to start in southern Manitoba. (The ride is due to end at Fort Macleod, Alberta, where the Mounties built their first fort — and arrested a bunch of whiskey traders at nearby Fort Whoop-Up.) When the re-enactment ride ends, Downs will exchange her uniform for an antique wedding dress and wed Sgt. Steve Saunders. “We’ll be in period uniform,” Saunders promises.
