Michelle Dockery bid goodbye to her fiancé last night in his native Ireland, alongside his parents and hundreds of mourners who turned out to pay their respects.

The Downton Abbey star rushed from the U.S. to Ireland last week to be with John Dineen before he died Sunday after battling rare form of cancer.

Dockery and Dineen’s parents, Maria and Patrick, followed the coffin into the church of St. James at Ballinora, Cork, just minutes from where he grew up on the family farm.

Dockery is believed have been staying at the farm since last Thursday after ending a promotional tour of the U.S. to be by her fianc s bedside.

He will be buried after a private funeral service at the same church on Wednesday.

Mourners lined up in the inclement weather to enter the church where parish priest Father Declan Mansfield presided over the service.

Councillor Mary Shields, a local representative from the area said his death was “absolutely heartbreaking.”

“He was so very handsome, a beautiful young man. It’s heart-wrenching to see a young couple separated like this,” Shields said. “They had their whole lives in front of them. It’s so tragic and so sad.”

She added, “The whole community will want to reach out and console the family.”
