Mother Collapses on Pier After Cruise Ship with Her Kids On Board Leaves Without Her
A video of the incident shows the woman waving her arms before falling to her knees as the ship sails away
A woman was undoubtedly living out a mother’s nightmare as she watched a cruise ship sail away with her children on board after she and her husband missed the scheduled departure time.
A video of the incident shows the woman waving her arms at the ship in desperation before sinking down to her knees on the Nassau, Bahamas, pier on April 21.
“That is someone that has missed the boat. And apparently she has her kids on the boat and she is not on there, and there’s a guy there, too,” the video’s narrator said. “She was yelling, ‘My kids are on there.’ ”
The Norwegian Breakaway had stopped in Nassau as part of a seven-day cruise that started in New York on April 17, according to a statement from Norwegian Cruise Line, ABC News reports. The woman was not back at the ship by the scheduled re-boarding time of 5:30 p.m. and her husband and children, who had already boarded, were unable to reach her.
Norwegian said in the statement that the ship waited 30 extra minutes for the woman to show up before her husband decided to stay behind and wait for his wife while the children stayed with their uncle on board the ship. As seen in the video, the couple arrived back at the pier just as the boat was departing.
“This ship ain’t even trying to slow down,” the video’s narrator said.
The cruise line, which said in the statement they had offered the couple travel and lodging assistance, arranged for the parents to reunite with their children at the ship’s next port.
