Most Talked-About Couples
ON THE DOWN-LOW
They've been spotted vacationing together in Saint-Tropez and even made a romantic video for his song "'03 Bonnie amp Clyde," but Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles (in New York in September) have never been ones to talk publicly about their relationship. "I don't say if he's my boyfriend or not," the coy singer told PEOPLE about the hip-hopper in October.
When Harrison Ford met Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart at the 2002 Golden Globes, sparks began flying and, before long, they were live-in loves. "It doesn't faze me," Flockhart (with Ford in France in September) told PEOPLE this summer about their age difference. "Sometimes I even say, 'Wow, I keep forgetting that he's (22) years older than me.' "
After his breakup with Britney, it was hard to guess who Justin Timberlake's next ladylove would be. Cameron Diaz stepped into the role and, by all accounts, the duo (in Hollywood in September) is having a rollicking good time. "She takes care of him, and he looks after her, and it's so great," pal Pharrell Williams told PEOPLE in October.
TROUBLE IN PARADISE
She's an Oscar-winning actress, he's a smooth RampB crooner. Indeed, Halle Berry and Eric Benet (in Hollywood in September) seemed like the perfect couple until word spread about his alleged sex addiction. With Berry's Oct. 1 revelation that "we need time apart to reevaluate our union," the fairy tale was clearly over.
THEY'RE FOR REAL
In a match made in reality-show heaven, Trista Rehn met the man of her dreams, firefighter Ryan Sutter, on The Bachelorette. After getting engaged on the Feb. 19 episode, the press-friendly pair (at their September bachelor-bachelorette party in St. Maarten) are still loving the spotlight: Their wedding is scheduled to air on ABC on Dec. 10.
The minute Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher (in L.A. in September) started dating, they were such an odd couple that we were sure they were just "punking" us. However, it seems to be real: Months after their relationship began, they continue to be "all over each other," as a fellow reveler at a P. Diddy party told PEOPLE.
For Mandy Moore and Andy Roddick (in New York in July), the score is definitely love-love. Since Moore had her mom invite Roddick to the set of How to Deal in 2002, the pair has been the picture of puppy love. "He knows me better than anyone, and I know him better than anyone," Moore told PEOPLE in September.
Though they have their share of on-camera spats on the hit MTV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, pop stars Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson (in Santa Monica in July) say they opened up their lives to small-screen viewers "to show people how, at the end of the day, we never go to bed mad," Simpson told PEOPLE in September.
Snuggling at outdoor cafes seems to be a favorite pastime of sweethearts Kirsten Dunst and Jake Gyllenhaal (in London in July), and why not? The couple is out in the open with their love. Dunst even thanked her boyfriend for "being my best kiss" when she won an MTV award in June for her Spider-Man smooch with costar Tobey Maguire.
Despite denying their union for months, on Sept. 30, Nicole Kidman's rep admitted that the Oscar winner and Lenny Kravitz (in New York City in October) were "very close." Though the flamboyant rocker and the demure actress may seem like opposites, they share a devotion to their kids – Kidman's Isabella, 10, and Connor, 8; and Kravitz's Zoe, 14.
OUT OF SORTS
Though their marriage seemed solid, after five years (and a report that he had strayed while on location in Montreal), Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke separated in September. "You have to be brave. It's very difficult," the actress, who has two kids with Hawke (Maya, 5, and Roan, 22 months), told Britain's Mirror about their breakup, PEOPLE noted in October.
When it comes to celebrity relationships, all bets are off. Just look at Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Though they had eyes only for each other at the Oscars (in March, left), they called off their September wedding just four days before the big event. Later sightings of Bennifer (in Georgia, right) confirmed that they remained together, but we're still wondering: Will they wed?
