Monica Makes Big News

Quelle surprise: Two independent surveys have determined that the Monica Lewinsky scandal was the most heavily covered story of 1998 by TV news and newsmagazine shows. NewsTV Reports counted 810 segments on Lewinsky and her affair with President Clinton, compared to 241 segments on the runner-up story, the “Seinfeld” sign-off. Another study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs found that the White House sex scandal pulled three times as much coverage on the ABC, CBS and NBC nightly newscasts as the second-most reported story, the situation in Iraq.
