YouTube star and transgender activist, Gabrielle Diana Gladu, waited two months for her legal name change to come through – so once it was official, her mom whipped up a creative way to let her know and to celebrate.

Rose Gladu of Ottawa, Ontario, baked her daughter a cake last weekend and in red icing carefully wrote: “Congratulations, you are now Gabrielle.”

With Gabrielle’s cousin videotaping the happy occasion, Rose presented her daughter with the cake after a home-cooked meal: “Your legal name change came through.”

“Really?” asked Gabrielle, 16, her hands briefly covering her mouth, before she turned to bury her head in her mom’s lap in tears.

Gabrielle’s mom first came up with the idea because she wanted her daughter to be surrounded by family and friends when she learned the news. “I was not expecting her to get so emotional that she became speechless,” Rose told BuzzFeed.

“None of my transition would have been possible if I didn’t have my mother,” Gabrielle later captioned a photo with her mom holding the cake.
