MKTO will drop their Bad Girls EP Friday, but PEOPLE has an exclusive first listen to “Afraid of the Dark,” one of the pop duo’s new tracks.

“‘Afraid of the Dark’ is a metaphor for ‘I can be the light in your darkness’ – one of our favorites from the EP,” Tony Oller, 24, tells PEOPLE.

Like their latest effort’s lead single, “Bad Girls,” “Afraid of the Dark” pairs hip-hop influences with a radio-ready pop hook.

Meanwhile, their EP marks Malcolm Kelley and Oller’s second major release, following last year’s self-titled debut full-length album, which scored a Top 20 hit with “Classic.”

Kelley, 23, and Oller met when they were costars on the Nickelodeon show Gigantic in 2010 and opened for Demi Lovato on her world tour last year.
