Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood are still very much in their honeymoon phase – though they are beginning to settle into domestic life.

“I love it here in Ottawa,” the hockey-player groom, 30, told reporters Wednesday at his annual hockey camp, reports Canada’s CTV. Fisher says that he and his new bride plan to remain in Ottawa for as long as his team, the Senators, wants him.

But is the Canadian capital city also to the liking of his Oklahoma-born, country star wife (whom he met at one of her Ottawa concerts in 2008)? “She likes it, she knows how much I like it, and I want to stay here my whole career if possible,” says Fisher. “We’re both comfortable here. Home is where we are, so let’s make this home.”

Given their work schedules, “Probably the airport will be the main residence,” he concedes with a laugh. “There will be lots of traveling. We’ll be all over, so it’s all good.”

Kids Down the Road

Currently, the couple divide their time between homes in Nashville and Peterborough, Ontario. But come the time he’s played out?

“When I’m done [with] hockey, she’ll still be working. I’m sure she can always work. We’ll settle in Nashville. I love it there. I’ve got lots of friends there now, I love the area. I like a lot of things about it. There’s a nice church that we love, that we go to … that being said, it’s a little ways away. I want to obviously play a few years, a bunch of years here yet,” he says, according to the Ottawa Sun.

“We obviously want kids, but that’s down the road,” he also says. “Now is not the time, especially with our busy schedules, everything we’ve got going on. We don’t know exactly when, but definitely we will.”

Dealing with Paparazzi

Married on July 10 before 250 guests at the Ritz Carleton at Reynolds Plantation in Georgia, Fisher says, “It was awesome. The wedding was everything we wanted it to be. It was obviously a very special day for both of us, a lot of good friends and family. We had a great weekend and honeymoon – we had a great time.”

Where he is having a problem adjusting is the paparazzi attention accorded Underwood. “It is what it is. I’m never really used to it. She’s used to it, but it’s a little different for me and learning to deal with it. It’s part of life I guess now and you can use it for good or bad too,” he says.

Then again, “If I’m with her, they’re not looking at me, so that’s good.”
