Michelle Dockery is mourning alongside the family of her late her fiancé John Dineen, who died Sunday after a battle with a rare form of cancer.

Dockery, who turned 34 Tuesday, is believed to be at the Dineen family home in Waterfall on the outskirts of Cork, Ireland. The Downton Abbey star and Dineen’s family are preparing for his funeral, which is expected to be held Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, a source tells PEOPLE.

Dineen, an Irish native, and Dockery began dating in September 2013 after being introduced by Downton co-star Allen Leech.

The couple attempted to keep their romance out of the spotlight, but Dockery briefly spoke about their relationship in September 2014, saying, “I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland.”

Dockery was by Dineen’s bedside on Sunday when he passed away at the Marymount Hospice in Cork, Ireland, where he was from.

In a statement, Dockery thanked the public for the “support and kindness” the family has received, before adding that she “kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.”

Dineen, 34, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. He worked as a commercial public relations executive
