MELROSE CLOSES DOWN

Fox TV’s “Melrose Place” is being canceled, according to New York’s Daily News. Show creator and executive producer Aaron Spelling told cast and crew this weekend that this season is the nighttime soap opera’s last. The series returned former “Dynasty” vixen Heather Locklear to the top of prime time, but consistently low ratings and diminished buzz about the show are being cited as the reasons for its forthcoming demise in May, at the end of its seventh season. The program made household names of actors like Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Josie Bissett.
